Mission

       To conserve Sahiwal cattle breed through genetic improvement by making it commercially viable to cater the domestic
       and global demand

 

Milestones in Sahiwal Breed History

  • 1915 :  Pioneers on Sahiwal, Sardar Jahangir Khan Wattoo 

  • 1917 : Allah Dad Cattle farm Jahanian, Multan was started

  • 1920 :  Datar Singh Farm was established in district Montgomary

  • 1938 :  A Sahiwal cattle scheme (10 yrs) was launched

  • 1956 :  Shah Jewena Cattle Farm Jhang was started

  • 1962 :  Sahiwal cattle breeding was started at Bahadurnagar

  • 1973 :  Sahiwal cattle were shifted at Fazilpur, Rajanpur

  • 1979 :  LES, Kalurkot, Bhakar started Sahiwal cattle breeding

  • 1980 : LES, Khizarabad, Sargodha was established

  • 1984 : Progeny Testing Programme was launched

  • 1998 :  An international study on Sahiwal cattle was completed

  • 2004 : Research Centre for Conservation of Sahiwal Cattle was established at Jhang

Sahiwal Cattle Breed

  • Global animal genetic resource, found  in 29 countries

  • High milk producing ability amongst zebu cattle under harsh climatic conditions

  • Resistant against tropical diseases

  • Ticks and Heat tolerant
