Livestock contributes to 70% of the world’s rural poor as a
component of their livelihoods. Increasing demand
for animal food offers an opportunity for one-third of the
world’s population which depends on animals daily. It may
threaten the sustainable use of local breeds evolved through centuries
of selective breeding under different ecologies. Zebu
cattle flourish well under tropical environments where as
Sahiwal dairy cattle breed is the best amongst Zebu cattle
breeds. Research Centre for Conservation of Sahiwal Cattle
(RCCSC), Jhang is working for its conservation.
manuscript describes the targets achieved, services provided,
research trials and field activities completed under three
sections by various scientists during the period under report.
